After a break of a few years, the newcomer’s orientation is back. In cooperation with FFS (Force Support Squadron), Host Nation Council Spangdahlem e.V. organized a very special tour for the newcomers of Spangdahlem Air Base.
First, the participants were picked up at the air base by bus and driven to Bitburg, where they were greeted by the mayor of the town.
Mr. Joachim Kandels recounted on the time when the airfield in Bitburg was still an active air base. In his presentation, he also talked about the current partial use of the site and plans for the future. Spontaneous questions and an interesting exchange rounded off the visit to the city hall.
Afterwards, Mr. Kandels drew the new arrivals’ attention to the traces of the Romans in Bitburg’s city centre and responded to requests for a souvenir photo or two.
The group then moved on to the Bitburger brewery. During an hour-long tour in English, the participants learned a lot of interesting facts about the family business and the production of Bitburger Premium Pilsner. The tour was followed by a cozy get-together in the Bitburger Lounge with the opportunity to enjoy the drinks.
Those who wanted to could now have lunch in the Eifelbräu restaurant or use the remaining time to explore the city further. At around 3 p.m., the bus picked up the new arrivals again and drove back to the air base.
The participants were able to gain many exciting impressions of their new home.
