On August 23, 2025, our Chairman Michael Ludwig welcomed over 130 participants at the starting point—more than ever before. After a short speech, the walk set off in the direction of Himmerod Abbey. The group was led by Deputy Chairman Klaus Rodens.

Among them, from the top of Spangdahlem Air Base: Col. William Lutmer (Commander, 52nd Fighter Wing), Col. Daniel R. Lindsey (Deputy Commander, 52d Fighter Wing), Col. Jason A. Purdy (Commander, 52d Maintenance Group) and Col. Tommy V. S. Marshall II (Commander, 52nd Mission Support Group) – each accompanied by their families.

Halfway through, we took a break in the woods—chilled drinks were kindly provided by the Bitburger Braugruppe. This was also an excellent opportunity to make new contacts as well as strengthen and nurture friendships. Freelance writer Nina Schieben from the Berlin daily newspaper taz also took the opportunity to ask many of her questions.

Refreshed, we arrived at Himmerod Abbey at around 1 p.m. There we enjoyed a hearty lunch served in the monks’ dining hall. In addition to other members of the Host Nation Council Spangdahlem e.V., Thomas Kröffges, board member and secretary of the association, also joined the group.

A special highlight followed afterwards in the monastery church: Wolfgang Valerius thrilled the audience with a mini organ concert that gave everyone goose bumps.

At around 3 p.m., it was time to say goodbye until next time! The Host Nation Council Spangdahlem e.V. would like to thank all participants and helpers.
Special thanks go to the Ministry of the Interior and Sport of Rhineland-Palatinate for its generous support of this event.
