On Monday, May 19, 2025, students from St. Matthias-Schule and exchange students from Spangdahlem High School were given a wonderful opportunity to enjoy nature and community – a joint “German Wandertag”. On the agenda: an excursion to the Bitburg Reservoir.
The day began with a short and leisurely hike around the reservoir. The students from Germany and the USA had the opportunity to discover the natural beauty of the region and to engage in conversation.
After the hike, everyone enjoyed their packed breakfast. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the pedal boating on the lake. In small German-American groups, the students got into the boats and paddled across the water together. The activity encouraged teamwork and brought lots of fun and laughter.
The excursion to the Bitburg Reservoir marked the conclusion of a successful exchange year, during which the students had the opportunity to form new friendships, gain insights into each other’s school life and everyday experiences – and discover how enriching intercultural encounters can be.
A heartfelt thank you goes to the Host Nation Council Spangdahlem e.V., whose generous support made the exchange and these many valuable interactions between young people possible.
