On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, German students at St.-Willibrord-Gymnasium and St. Matthias School in Bitburg had the special opportunity to welcome American high school students from Spangdahlem for a return visit. The guests received a warm welcome and were able to take part in classes together with the German students. This allowed for an exciting cultural exchange and promoted mutual understanding.
Fun and games were not neglected either. At St. Matthias School, the game “Werewolf” was especially popular, and all participants joined in with great enthusiasm and team spirit.
The atmosphere was filled with joy and curiosity as the students playfully demonstrated their language skills and creativity.
Another highlight of the day was the rich buffet prepared by the German students. Various foods, including sweets, cakes, and other treats, were carefully prepared and offered. This gave the American guests the chance not only to experience German cuisine but also to enjoy the hospitality of St.-Matthias-Schule.
Meanwhile, the high school students at St.-Willibrord-Gymnasium quickly connected through shared activities, including exploring German and English proverbs, experiencing everyday school life, and taking a tour of the school building. Later, they gathered in the school cafeteria to enjoy burgers together, creating a relaxed atmosphere to talk, laugh, and get to know one another better.
The visit was a great success and will certainly remain a fond memory for everyone involved. Experiences like these show the true value of school exchanges: they promote cultural understanding, build international friendships, and allow students to experience another country’s school system in an authentic and memorable way.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Host Nation Council for their generous support and continued commitment, which made this exchange possible and contributed significantly to its success. Thank you so much on behalf of students from Spangdahlem High School, St.-Willibrord-Gymnasium and St.-Matthias-Schule Bitburg!
